Get Thousands of Backlinks Using Social Networking Sites

Getting a high traffic website is directly tied into how easily accessible you are in the search engines. The search engines if managed correctly can turn your lackluster internet business into an overnight success. The problem that occurs when trying to get high rankings with the search engines is the competition that you will encounter for the same keywords. There are ways that you can top your competition even if several competitors are using the same keywords. The easiest and most effective way to conquer your competitors is to get more backlinks. If you are trying to find a way to increase your page rank, you will have to get thousands of backlinks. Today I will share with you some ways to generate thousands of backlinks to increase your page ranking.

The most common method of getting more backlinks to your website or blog is to research other similar websites that have high page ranks and solicit them for a reciprocal link. A reciprocal link is when you agree to add another marketer's link on your website in return they will advertise your link. This method can be time consuming and very difficult because someone with a high page rank is usually not interested in a link exchange, especially from a lesser page rank website. If you still want to pursue this method you should send the website owner an email stating your interest in a reciprocal link and patiently wait for a response.

Forums are great sources to get thousands of backlinks. Forums are indexed by the search engines on a regular basis, so when you make a post to your favorite forum, it gets picked by the search engines. Make sure that when you sign up for a forum to leave your website or you business opportunities in your forum signature. The advantages of a creating a forum signature is, when someone clicks on a forum topic that was indexed by the search engines, they will have a direct link to your website from your forum signature. The more post you make to different topics, the more backlinks you will create to your website.

Writing articles on topics relating to your website and submitting your articles to article directories will also help to get more backlinks. The key to article writing is to write to write in a way that your audience understands; it doesn't have to be very technical. Most newbie marketers get intimidated by this method, but it is actually one of the simplest and best producing methods you can use to get thousands of backlinks. The most popular article directories are Goarticles and Ezine articles. Before you submit your article, read their instructions carefully, they do have some guidelines that are mandatory.

Web 2.0 is the new wave that is taking the internet into the next generation of Advertising. The main ingredient of the Web 2.0 concept is social networking websites. Social networking sites are quickly becoming the most popular and effective way to get thousands of backlinks to your website. Basically Web 2.0 sites like Digg, Reddit, and Sphinn provide high pr backlinks to your website. Social networking sites are very Google friendly and you do not have to write a 500 word article to create a backlink. There are literally thousands of social networking and bookmarking sites popping up everyday. Internet marketers are taking advantage of the social marketing phenomenon by generating thousands of backlinks to their perspective sites. Currently there are bookmarking softwares that allow you post to hundreds social networking websites with just one click.

The next time you are thinking of bringing more visitors to your website or increasing your page rankings remember these methods. The internet changes everyday but core is always a constant, getting thousands of relevant backlinks to your website will always increase relevance with the search engines.

The Importance of Creating Backlinks

Those in the Internet business, especially those in Search Engine Optimization, are very familiar with backlinks. Also known as inbound or inward links, backlinks are the incoming links to your website. They are links in other websites that direct readers to your site. Backlinks reveal how popular or important your website it, thus, they are very important.

One particular reason why backlinks are important is the way they are used by search engines. Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN use backlinks to determine just how important a website is. They use backlinks, among other factors, to assess if a website is relevant enough to appear in the page results of a particular search inquiry. The more backlinks you have, the better the chances that Google of Yahoo will consider your website relevant. It follows then that the more backlinks you have, the more visitors you will get.

Once you become aware how important backlinks are, it is time to focus on creating them. This is very easy. One way to do this is to leave your link when you comment on blogs. Of course, it is not enough to comment on just any blog. Choose blogs with content that is remotely related to the content of your website. This way, you are building quality backlinks. Another way to create backlinks is to post links together with your signature when you comment on forums. Submitting your URL to directories is another great way to create backlinks.

Creating backlinks may seem like an exhausting part of managing your website but it will be worth it. Backlinks determine your website's popularity and this is something any webmaster should focus on.

Backlinks and Their Important Role on the Internet

I hear this question constantly on the internet recently. Since backlinks play a huge, huge part of how you rank in Google, MSN, etc, then people naturally want to find a fast, easy, and effective way to build backlinks. It has to be a legit way so you don't find yourself banned one way, so you need to trade like a normal exchange, but in an automated way so you're continually hunting down trading partners and changing html code all the time.

Despite what you may hear on the internet, backlinks are still very much alive and highly valued by search engines. The internet is sometimes called the Web because, like in a spider web, one point ( a website) connects to many others. Web sites linking to each other is not only usual, but essential.

The deal with Google and backlinks is that they too agree that backlinks are natural. On-topic backlinks that is. Sites naturally, if there were no incentive due to search engines, link to other websites their visitors would also like. This is an on-topic backlink, and is valued by search engines much more than random backlinks for the sake of having a link.

So, what does this teach us as webmasters?

What it means to us is that while we should keep search engines in our mind when working on websites and designing them, the focus should be users. Provide good material and a good website, and you'll naturally get backlinks and build a relationship with your users. Word of mouth is a very powerful friend indeed.

So, what CAN you can do to build your backlinks?

There are many options you can use to build natural-type backlinks.
1. Write articles. Writing articles(like I am doing now) and having them get out to article directories and other websites means you get free backlinks from good sources. This really helps out, and the more you write, the more gain and traffic you'll see. Write an article a day and you're in great shape.

2. Join an on-the-level link exchange site. This means join one in which every exchange is manually approved, and not one where 10,000 links show up to your site overnight. You can see where that is not a natural curve, so stick with link exchange sites that you choose who you link to/from and stay safe. Another positive note is that the other websites are there looking to exchange also, so it's much faster than searching down websites and waiting weeks for a response.

3. Link directories. This is where you submit your site link, and in return give the directory site a backlink(usually mandatory). Though these aren't too valueable to Google, they still may get you some visitors here and there which is always a good thing.

So, in conclusion, let's come back to the initial question. Do link exchanges work? Absolutely. There are many ways to get legit backlinks (much safer) and that's what you need to concentrate on. The trick is to keep your link partners as close to your topic as you can. The more relevant, the more it weighs.

Backlinks and Traffic - Just Why is it Such a Big Deal?

Nowadays if we want a website to be successful, we have to deal with niche markets, great content, search engine optimization and tremendous competition. And this list is simply the starting point. We will quite possibly need to acquaint ourselves with marketing and copywriting and converting our visitors into buyers. However, for just about every webmaster, the big difficulty is bringing in traffic.

That leads us to the topic of this article. How can I attract Internet surfers to my site? One answer to this question is backlinks! So, exactly what are backlinks and just what do backlinks have to do with attracting visitors to my site?

The first thing to understand is that there are two basic forms of traffic, paid traffic and organic traffic. Examples of paid traffic are such things as advertising through pay per click networks, placing banners on other sites and any other way in which you are able to pay to attract a surfer's attention and tempt him to visit your site. If you're only focusing on paid traffic then you don't need to pay much attention to backlinks.

Organic traffic is traffic that comes from someone searching on one of the search engines for a topic which they are interested in. Then when all the free listings come up the surfer clicks on a link to visit a webpage. In the case of organic traffic the webmaster does not have to pay directly for the link which the visitor clicks on.

In general, organic traffic is simply called free traffic. Despite the fact that it can be, it usually is not really free. To get a website page included on the first couple of pages of results the webmaster will have to put in quite a lot of work. This brings us back to the topic of backlinks.

Generally, the quality and number of backlinks attached to a site are what determines sites which appear when we do a search. A backlink is nothing more than a hyperlink from one site to another. So it is very helpful if you have a whole lot of websites linking to your site if you want to be ranked highly in the organic search engine results.

But remember that quality matters too. A backlink will be seen as offering high quality if:

* The words used to create the hyperlink (called the 'anchor' text) are highly relevant to the topic of the page which the link is leading to. (You should not use "click here"!)

* The topic on the site where the backlink originates is relevant to the topic on your site.

* The site linking to you has plenty of good quality backlinks pointing to it.

* The page rank of the site linking to you is relatively high (ideally a PR3 or more) and the higher the better.

Of course there are other criteria, but the criteria given here are a very good starting point.

So, just how does a webmaster go about building up the necessary quantity of high quality backlinks pointing to his site? There are many ways of doing this and an even greater number of software programs which are designed to assist in providing the answer. Purchasing the software increases the cost of your backlinks.

The truly free way is to simply wait for other webmasters to discover your site and think enugh of it to link to it. That is super, but can take quite a long time. Of course you can contact other webmasters and ask if they will trade links with you. You simply give them a link from your site and they give you one from their site in return. These are however called reciprocal links and are generally thought to be of uncertain value these days.

Another way is to make use of Article Marketing which initially means writing articles about subjects that are relevant to your site. You then submit your articles to several article directory sites and include links of your choice in the resources box following your content. Submitting your website to a number of site directories is another method that fits into the category of free links.

You might also opt to pay for backlinks. One of the simplest methods is to buy a link directly. Internet marketing discussion boards are a very good place to find links on offer. You could pay $50 a month or more to get a link from a PR5 site. You'll get a lot of traffic from it, but you will pay for it. Naturally the lower the PR is then the lower the cost.

Whatever technique you choose, building backlinks is critical to your search engine ranking success. You'll want to acquire hundreds or if possible thousands of them. The important thing is that you get started and build up your links steadily over the months ahead so that you can begin to enjoy a steady and growing flow of traffic to your site.

How to Get Backlinks That are Quality!

Once you realize just how important backlinks are to your rank in search engines like Google and yahoo you will start wondering about how to get backlinks and more of them! With an estimated 80% of page rank being determined by backlinks it is no wonder this is of prime importance to anyone who needs people to find their website amongst the clutter of the net.

The issue many people ignore in their quest for backlinks is that not all of them are alike. Smart search engines have long ago learned that people will do unscrupulous things on the net to manipulate their methods of determining good websites and have ways of detecting and qualifying good backlinks. A backlink itself is a way to determine if a site is popular as reciprocal links are not as good as webmasters can just "swap links" to gain more links; backlinks go just one way so there is less chance of anything being manipulated for gain.

The other issue with backlinks is quality. For a backlink to be counted by a search engine as good an that will help rank up your site it must fulfill a set of criteria to prove its quality. While search engines do not give out their code on this matter it essentially comes down to three things:

  • Relevance - The site the backlink comes from must have some relevance to your site. Links from sites that are similar to your own will be counted more highly than those from sites that have no relevance to your site.

  • Page Rank - The popularity of the site that the backlink comes from it very important. If a very large popular site links to you it is seen as a bigger endorsement than a bunch of very low page rank sites backlinking you.

  • Originality - The content of the site that backlinks you must also be original content. Google punishes copied material and links from sites that are punished are punished accordingly also.

So now you know what a quality backlink is how do you get more of them? One way is to write articles and link your site from the article that you post on article sites that litter the net. Another tactic is to post in forums with your site in your signature so every time you post you create a backlink. As always if you site is good, well put together and relevant then you will create backlinks from people simply willing to link you and some smart networking can also help. How to get backlinks quickly though is another matter entirely as it is a slow process.

How to Use Backlinks to Boost Lead Generation

The best way to boost traffic to your site, even better than pay-per-click, is backlinks. Backlinks are links to your site from other web sites all over the internet.

How do you build thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of backlinks? You do it by writing articles, and distributing them to web sites related to your industry.

Backlinks are the Fuel that Drives Traffic

Backlinks drive traffic to your site in two ways. First, you'll always have a link back to your site in the resource box of your articles. A reader interested in visiting your site can click this link to go right to your site, or any page within your site you want to drive them to.

Second, one of the major factors Google looks at when ranking pages is the relevancy of the site. If you have thousands of links to your site Google will deem your site highly relevant. That will rank your site higher, and mean more people will find your site when searching your keywords.

Backlinks are FREE

The beauty of backlinks is that they don't cost you a thing. How much would pay-per-click cost you for highly relevant keywords? They'd cost you a fortune.

To build thousands of backlinks all you have to do is write articles, and distribute them to web sites related to your industry.

Backlinks are Organic

Companies pay millions of dollars for pay-per-click advertising that show their ads at the top of search pages for their keywords. At first, this was brilliant because the average web surfer thought that top ad was really just the most relevant return on their search.

These days the secret is pretty much out. Most people now know those top results are really ads. Most people now look directly to the true, or organic search results.

Backlinks build your relevancy, which in turn raises your page rank. The higher your site ranks, the higher your site appears in actual search results. A top 10 ranking, or PR10, puts your site on the first results page. You're easy to find.

Backlinks from articles are the right kind of backlinks.

You could build lots of backlinks by doing a link exchange, but that's a bad idea. A link exchange is you putting a link to another site on your site in exchange for the other site linking back to you. That's no good because you want thousands of link coming in to your site. If your outgoing links equal or exceed the number of links coming in your relevancy is lost.

Link exchange sites are often not considered credible, and Google and other search engines do not consider them as relevant as an industry web site or blog. Link exchanges will do far more damage to your backlink program than good.

So, you can see just how powerful backlinks really are. Don't be fooled by pay-per-click, SEO, etc. If you want qualified sales leads, write articles, distribute them, and build as many backlinks as possible.

Your buyers will come to you in droves.

Edu Backlinks: the Secrets the Guru's are Keeping From You

Without a doubt getting high quality backlinks to your site is the backbone to search engine optimization. If you want to rank well in Google or any search engine you need quality websites linking to your website.

It tells the search engines that your site must be good if so many other websites are pointing to your site. Many internet marketers are beginning to understand that there is one type of link that is far better than any other type of backlink.

What type of backlinks you ask? Education backlinks better known as .edu backlinks.

Why do the search engines regard edu backlinks as the best on the internet? Great question. .edu backlinks are the most trusted links on the internet because they are from colleges and universities. In the mind of the search engine spiders an education website does not link to just any website, they only link to websites that really have something to offer.

There is a big problem with most education backlinks though. Most education websites now use the nofollow tag with any external link that goes away from their site. They know that there are people out there that will try and exploit their websites because they know that the links they provide to websites are the most powerful for the obvious reasons discussed above.

The nofollow tag basically tells the search engines not to count the backlink on the education website because they might be trying to exploit the education website. Now because of the nofollow tag that is used for most .edu backlinks most marketers don't even bother with trying to get them anymore.

Believe it or not there are many edu websites that can give .edu backlinks to a website that do not use the nofollow tag, these are the websites that internet marketers can still use to gain some very big love the Google and the other search engines.

There are actually people on the internet that work with education websites that will help you get dofollow edu backlinks but it typically costs money for these backlinks. However it should be realized that the cost is normally worth it if used with a solid backliking strategy.

If you ever get the chance to get a dofollow edu backlink from an education website jump on it if you can afford it. It could make all the difference to your search engine optimization efforts.

Inbound Link Building Strategy

Your success on the internet is directly related to how many other sites are linking back to yours. The goal of every webmaster is to get more inbound links. I have listed three simple steps below to automate and multiply the process. Once the process is started you will be getting inbound links while you sleep.

Number One:

Write Articles. It is hard work to write a quality article but you will find it to be a long term strategy for building inbound links that will pay off for years to come in both link popularity and traffic to your website. You may not consider yourself an expert on a particular subject, but if you have a website I'll bet you are an expert on the subject you have chosen for that website. Write an article on the theme of your website and submit it to the various article directories on the internet. Believe it or not, you are an expert. You just haven't realize it yet.

You may experience a feeding frenzy on your article. Why? Simply because webmasters are constantly looking for content. Webmasters are busy designing sites and are able to save time by using expert content from other people. They often create websites with thousands of pages and are in need of content for those sites. And they know where the directories are that will contain your article. Every time your article is picked up by a webmaster, it will result in a link back to your site. In the first few days after I submitted my first article it got pick up and posted 400 times! I was shocked. You will be too!

Number Two:

Signup at a link exchange coop. A link exchange coop can give you more backlinks in a few minutes work than you could ever generate by yourself. You are utilizing a network of thousands of other websites. And thats what the internet is, a huge network. Take advantage of the power of networking. There are many link exchanges. One well known link exchange coop is: . Depending on the size and pagerank of your site, you could earn 1000 inbound links or more my adding a few lines of code to your website. Do some research and find the one that will bring the greatest benefit to your site.

Number Three:

Automate the reciprocal linking process by utilizing reciprocal linking software. Do not spend hours upon hours emailing webmasters and posting reciprocal links to your site. Simple buy a reciprocal link script, set it up at your website and it will process the links, add them to your website and then it will monitor to make sure each webmaster has posted your link to his/her website. This will free up your time to do something more important like writing articles. To find inexpensive software to automate the reciprocal linking process, simply go to eBay and type in the search phrase "reciprocal linking popularity software".

Rather than doing things the same old way, try these three steps. They will save you countless hours. By using these time savers you will be much more efficient in getting backlinks and you will also get hundreds, maybe even thousands more than you ever thought possible.

How to Get 100 Free PR Backlinks

The importance of generating backlinks to increase Page rank can not be emphasized any more, it is absolutely mandatory. Once you start your backlink building campaign, you will find that it can be a difficult task if you don't know which direction to take.

The traditional way to acquire backlinks is to search the internet for websites with a high PR that share the same or similar interest with your own and ask them for a reciprocal link. A reciprocal link is an link exchange between two website owners where each party agree to place each others links on their websites. The problem that occurs when searching for reciprocal links is, if you are just starting out, then your page rank will probably be zero. Most sites that are already established do not gain any incentive to exchange links with you.

The other alternatives to finding established sites to link is to get a little creative in order to build some backlinks. We all know that Web 2.0 social networking sites have bombarded the internet, but what most people do not realize is that they are a great source of high Pr backlinks. You can set up an account with several networks, submit a blog with a link to your website and voila!; you have created a quality backlink to your website.

Another source for acquiring backlinks that usually goes unnoticed are RSS feeds. You can use RSS feed for a variety of reasons. One reason is to receive great exposure for your website or blog. Once you submit your website to an RSS Feed Directory your feed can be subscribe to by numerous readers, thus creating great exposure for your website. RSS feeds are also a great backlinks tool, you can not only generate backlinksevery time your RSS feed is subscribe to, but you will also get free backlinks from each RSS feed directory you use to submit your website.

For best results submit to about 15 directories at a time to spread the amount of traffic you will receive. Spreading your traffic will also help with you Google ranking. The search engines rank websites with consistent traffic higher. You also do not want to generate too many backlinks too fast, as to not raise any eyebrows with Google.

Build Backlinks the Smart Way

Getting Backlinks Naturally
Many backlinks are achieved the natural way. When your website provides users with useful content, webmasters and website owners will often link to these useful web pages (on your site) for their website visitors to use. Most often then not, these sites that link to yours naturally are relevant to your sites content. Also known as "targeted backlinks", these types of backlinks are the most beneficial when generating quality traffic from them. Getting natural backlinks, however, is a slow process. These are built mostly on trust and gaining trust takes time.

Building Backlinks
One of the acceptable ways of building quality backlinks is listing your site in directories, posting in forums, and submitting to article directories. What you want to avoid is link farms, spam sites or sites that host illegal content, purchasing links in bulk, etc. An easy way to find sites that except these "one-way" link submissions is by using a backlinks finder.

Getting Listed in Directories
Getting listed in directories like DMOZ and Yahoo is a must because this is a way to get some quality backlinks for free and your site is easily noticed by search engines and potential visitors. Generally inclusion in these directories is free but the drawback is that sometimes you have to wait months before you get listed...or not listed at all. Top directories like DMOZ and Yahoo have strict guidlines when submitting, so follow the rules carefully. Yahoo also has a "pay for review" option that is costly and does not mean you will get listed. I would suggest submitting the free listing first, then wait a few months to see if your site is listed before considering the paid option.

Article Directories and Forums
Generally search engines index forums so posting in forums is way great way to get quality backlinks. Join forums with subject matter relevant to your site, add your URL (link) with anchor text of your choice to your forum signature, then contribute to the discussions. Be sure that you abide by the forum rules before you post anything...and do not post just for the backlinks. Forum administrators are not stupid. If your are truly contributing, your posts will not get deleted and you won't get banned. Also, sometimes administrators do not allow links in posts, unless they are relevant ones, so it is best to leave your link in your signature.

Submitting articles to directories can be more time-consuming then posting in forums. If you can write good articles on subjects related to your site, it's well worth the backlinks.

Feed them with RSS
Offer free content through RSS feeds to interested sites. When the other site publishes your RSS feeds, you will not only get backlinks to your site, but potentially a lot of visitors. Publishers of the feeds in return get to add relevant content to their site. It's a "win-win situation".

Press Releases
Submitting press releases to news sites is another great way to buil backlinks and generate traffic. Write professional press releases about "what's new" on your site. The dificult part is that you cannot release press releases if there is nothing "newsworthy".

What to Avoid
Avoid link exchange programs, which offer to "swap" links with unsuspecting website owners. First off, these programs spider email addresses and "spam" website owners with requests. the more you get involved, the more outbound links you have to place on your site that link to pages that link to yours. Search engines frown on this. They are much "smarter" today then they ever were in the past...especially Google. This practice can also get your site banned. It is not natural linking, and search engines know it.

Free Ways To Get Quality Backlinks For Search Engine Optimization

One of the best places to get free reviews is through social networking sites. On social networking sites, people talk about each other all the time. Social networking sites are going to take a bit more work to get reviews because you're going to have to participate and make your presence known before you can ask other people to review. Another way to do this is to have something to review other than you or your website with a bunch of backlinks.

If you are just trying to sell a product or are trying to get a site link as StumbleUpon.com, along with a review, this will give you some backlinks to your main site. You can also send reviews to places that are always looking for new product reviews - you can even do this with products that you are not selling.

If you become one of the first people to review a product, this is going to put your site at the top of the list, which will generate good traffic and help with your advertising. If your product is unique, this may give you a product review.

If your product could fit in an envelope, you might think about mass mailing it to several webmasters in your particular niche and requesting that they reviewed. Even better, you could offer that they become sellers of your product as long as they provide you a backlink, like Craigslist.

There are also sites that review websites as their main focus. You can submit your website for a review and get a backlink. The only problem with this is that you are not guaranteed that you are going to get a positive review. For example, if your layout is less than stellar, they will probably say that. This means that you might get one-way backlink, but it might not be in your favor, so be careful there. This is a risk you are going to take when you submit to website domain review sites, so make sure you trust that your own website is truly of good quality.

You can also utilize bloggers as part of the process for reviews. However, you are likely going to have to review the bloggers website, too. There are several ways to do this, but most likely you will have to do an even exchange. However, this is still a great way to generate some pre-backlinks. To do this, you establish your own blog under your domain so that you can do some social networking within blog communities.

If you are new to the Internet, it might seem like it is a very large task to get free unforced backlinks to your site. Natural backlinks are very important to give you a solid reputation with search engines, but as with inexperienced jobseekers, you, too, are not going to have the qualifications to attract someone who is interested in you. Nonetheless, the Catch-22 of that is that you are going to have to get those qualifications (in this case, backlinks) to establish the working reputation you need.

What do you do, then, Say that you were in a very tight job market and that market was only looking for experienced people; however, you do not have those qualifications. You might get the qualifications by volunteering or doing an internship. This is similar to what you are going to have to do to get some truly valuable backlinks that will count towards your reputation. You'll have to do some legwork and seek out backlinks just as you would job or volunteer opportunities if you were a newbie in the job market looking for experience.

Spotting a Backlink Lead

Search engines will ignore backlinks that look like spam. In fact, this has become such a problem for search engines and blog communities alike that most automatically put the attribute rel=nofollow in their templates to keep commentators from spamming just to try to get backlinks.

Unfortunately, this also stops people who are genuinely marketing their products via commentary. To this end, many communities have found that switching back to dofollow from nofollow as the attribute is best, then, someone in that site specifically takes care of the spam. This means that those commentators who contribute significantly to the community have their backlinks. These sites are called dofollow sites, as compared to nofollow sites.

Where You Get Started

Even though you know people are willing to give you a head start in the backlink market, though, this doesn not actually tell you where to go. These people do not want to advertise that they are willing to give backlinks and therefore attract spammers. Therefore, you are going to have to do some research and find out which websites will give you proper credit as long as you do the work on your end. This will help keep you from wasting valuable time on people who do not want to give you the time of day.

Just as you would not go to an employer who is not hiring anyway, thus wasting your time, you want to focus on websites that are already ready to work with you. These will give you backlinks for just a small amount of effort. These websites have established a dofollow attribute back into their community forums and websites.

However, if you have to actually go to every referral and ask them whether or not they are legitimate dofollow sites, it is going to take you forever. However, with the Internet, you can network your way into multiple referrals in a fraction of the time. One of the great ways to do this is through forums and bulletin boards. These places will give you information on websites that allow legitimate commentary or contribution to a community, along with backlinks. These places often post lists of sites and forums that accept legitimate backlinks, and they can provide you with an instant marketing contact referral list as well.

If you check out some SEO forums online, it should save you some time.

How to Get Quality Backlinks

Link-building is one of the most important aspects of SEO but many business owners go about it the wrong way. Not all links are going to make a difference in your search engine rankings so blindly accumulating links will not be to your advantage. Of course the top search engines like Google tell us that the best links to have are natural links that you receive without taking any action on your own. While these natural backlinks are ideal, it's not as easy as it sounds to get them.

Other Types of Quality Backlinks

There are many other ways to get killer backlinks besides naturally. Three factors you can use to measure the quality of backlinks are the source of the link, the motivation behind the link, and the link itself. When judging the source of a link, you have to look at the site's page rank, how much quality content the site has, and if the site has a high number of quality backlinks itself. Killer backlinks come from popular websites that have high page rank and plenty of quality backlinks.

The motivation behind a backlink is judged by whether you had to manipulate someone or something in order to get the link or if the link was created based on pure intent. An example of a link made with pure intent is when someone makes a natural link to your site because they like your content and simply think you have a great site. A manipulative link on the other hand is a link you had to pay for or otherwise take some sort of action to get.

When judging the actual backlink itself, you have to look at how it is built. A link to your site that says click here is better than no link at all but it can't be considered a high quality backlink. Ideally, backlinks should have anchor text containing your target keywords.

Tips for Accumulating Killer Backlinks

In a perfect world, hundreds of nice people with reputable websites would find your website and link to it simply because they think it rocks. Such natural links are harder to get than it sounds. The first step you can take towards attracting more of these natural links is by creating top-notch content that is interesting, informative, and useful to your site visitors.

Beyond natural links, there are a number of other types of backlinks that could be labeled killer backlinks. For example, you can share your content with a Creative Common License, allowing people to reproduce your articles, videos, and pictures, just so long as they link back to your site. On those terms, you can receive links anytime someone uses your content.

Creating what is known as linkbait is another way to receive tons of backlinks. Linkbait is interesting content that appeals to a large group of people. It could be a funny photoshopped picture, a catchy blog post about an evergreen topic in current events, and much more. Linkbait, also known as viral content, can attract tons of backlinks to your site in a short amount of time through social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and Reddit.

Other types of content that are viral in nature include content that can be embedded into people's blogs and sites such as widgets and videos. An incredibly useful widget that includes a link back to your site can not only bring you a ton of backlinks, it can also drive a substantial amount of traffic to your site.

Another way to gather quality backlinks is through submitting your site to reputable directories such as the Better Business Bureau, the Yahoo Directory, and the Librarian's Internet Index. You can also drive traffic to your site and build killer backlinks when you contribute articles and blog posts to popular blogs and article directories on the web. And don't forget about the power of online press releases to build killer links to your site.

Link-building is not an exact science but focusing on accumulating quality backlinks will certainly pay off with time. Make the creation of quality, informative content your top priority and you're sure to gradually attract those awesome natural links. Utilize these other link-building methods as well to help you achieve your long-term SEO goals.

Backlinks: What They are and How to Get Them

Sometimes called inbound links, backlinks are the lifeblood of Search Engine Positioning. In order for a website to be on the top of search engines like Google without the webmaster having to pay big money for advertising, the website has to have a large number of backlinks. Backlinks are links on one website that lead back to another website. The more established, high quality, and high Page Rank the website that contains the link has, the more power it has to help the linked website with its search engine position. If the website that is getting backlinks gets many High Quality and High Page Rank backlinks, the better the chance it has of being in a high position on the Search Engines.

How does a webmaster go about getting high quality backlinks to his or her website? There are many ways this can be done. Some people advocate writing and submitting articles, posting on forums, making comments on blogs. Others talk about submitting their website to various Internet directories. One directory that has an excellent reputation is called DMOZ, or the "Open Directory". This directory is probably the most respected directory online today. The websites it contains have all been placed there by human editors; there is no "automation" to this directory. The only drawback that's been discussed about this directory is that it takes so long to have a website included.

Another way that many people build backlinks for their website is to use Social Bookmarking websites. A "Social Bookmark" is a website that usually has a very popular 'community' aspect to it. Users sign up and create profiles on the sites that contain photos and information about themselves. They then can save "bookmarks" of favorite websites which can be itemized by 'tags', which are one or two word descriptions of what the sites contain, and these bookmarks can be saved to a list that's private or can be listed publicly, so that everybody can see it.

With the advent of what is known as Web 2.0, gaining backlinks is easier now than in any time in the history of the internet. Most sites now have an "interactive" quality to them nowadays. Readers can often sign in and create profiles. They then are often allowed to post comments on the stories or articles on the website or blog. In many cases, the website or blog owner responds to these comments; thus making this section of the website or blog a conversation.

Backlinking strategies can be easy and fun and the website owner who is working on getting more backlinks for his website can learn new things, meet new people, and have a tremendous amount of fun doing something that was once a chore: building backlinks.

What are Backlinks?

Backlinks are one of the most important aspects you need to consider when you're trying to build a higher ranking in the search engines. The search engines can perhaps find and index your site without backlinks, but without backing backlinks the search engines will never suggest your site to any of their visitors. Backlinks are essential for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) because they help to judge the popularity and importance of the website based on their backlinks to other sites. Search engines use a number of standard criteria to rate sites on the web and backlinking is high on the list. Backlinks are links that are directed towards your website. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website.

Backlinks are really just links to your site from another website. These links will direct users to your site whenever they click on it. Backlinks are not as of important as keyword sphere in MSN's point of perspective. Backlinks are basically incoming links to a particular website or web page. The more the number of backlinks a website or a web page possess, the more popular or important the website is.

Search engines consider one link on your site as one vote for you. Thus, with increased number of links, you get high number of votes and with more number of votes, your site rises in importance. Search engines, particularly Google use the number of incoming links as one measurement of the importance or ranking of the page. Other search engines tend to place less emphasis on the backlinks and more on other factors such as page content. Search engines can recognize quality link when they see one.

Google only updates PR every three months at best and during this time millions of new web pages are born that start off without any PR at all. When assessing your backlinks and you come across a page that appears to have a PR0 that has linked to you remember to check the PR of the home page because the subpage may have been created after the last Page Rank update and consequently won't show any numbers on the green PR bar. Google also gives new websites a waiting period of three to four months before giving it any kind of Page Rank. This is referred to as the "sandbox effect". Google search engine gives a lot of weight to backlinks that your site receives and the keywords that are used as anchor text in that link. Thats why Google's Page Rank exists, to collect the votes (links) for your site and give a score (the Page Rank score).

Links from other sites would need to be something that is relevant to you site. The absolute best type of links are backlinks or one way links to your website. Linking to suspicious places is something else that you must avoid. While it is true that search engines do not punish you if you have backlinks from such places because it is supposed that you have no control over what bad guys link to, if you enter a link exchange program with the so called bad neighbors and you link to them, this can be disastrous to your SEO efforts. Link building (otherwise known as backlinks) are critical to driving guaranteed website traffic to you. Suddenly, you can get great surges in traffic and hopefully in revenue, if you have monetised your site.
